現在、以下三つの分野で研究を行っています。

 

(1) 環境政治

環境保全のための意思決定のあり方として、民主政は優れているのでしょうか？

持続可能な発展を実現する上で、現在の民主政はどのような課題を抱えているでしょうか？

環境政策過程を民主化していくには、どのような課題があるでしょうか？

 

このような問いを念頭に、民主主義と環境保全の関係、環境NGOの役割、環境政策過程などについて研究を行っています。

これまで、インドネシアの民主化が政策過程やNGOの発展に与える影響について、環境ガバナンスの観点から研究を行ってきました（その際、政策過程の分析枠組 みとして「政策ネットワーク」や「政策の窓モデル」を使用し、現地でのインタビュー等を通じてデータを集め、ケーススタディを行いました）。

 

現在は、日本の環境NGO（特に自然保護団体）の政治学的研究に取り組んでいます。

 

今後も日本及び、アジア・太平洋諸国の事例を中心として、このテーマに取り組みたいと思います。

 

 

(2)　環境教育／ESD(持続可能な開発のための教育）

環境教育・ESD運動の分析や、それに関連する思想、あるいは環境政策における教育的アプローチの役割などに興味を持っており、日本・東南アジア・オセアニア等で調査を行っています。

 

主体としては、NGOや大学の取り組みを考察しています。

 

 

(3) リサーチの方法論・手法に関する研究／Methodologies and Methods in Social and Political Research 

社会科学におけるリサーチの方法論についてのテキストブックを、執筆しました。

（なお、同書は2018年の日本公共政策学会の著作賞を受賞しました。）

 

現在も、この本の中心的なテーマである「認識論をベースにした方法論のあり方」について、(1)や(2)と関連付けながら考察を行っています。

 

 

I work in the fields of ‘environmental politics’ and ‘environmental education/education for sustainable development (ESD). 

 

•  In the field of environmental politics, I am interested in the relationship between democracy and environmental conservation. Keywords associated with my research include environmental policy process, environmental NGOs and environmental governance.

• I am interested in approaching environmental education and ESD from a political perspective. I have written mainly on the efforts made by NGOs and higher education institutions, with reference to the impact of government policies on their development.  

 

The geographical focus of my research in both the fields is the Asia–Pacific region, particularly Japan and Indonesia.

 

Another area of research which is just taking shape is 'methodologies and methods in social and political research'. I published a textbook in this area in 2017 (in Japanese).
